Re: looking for a book !

I just finished Learn AppleScript:The Comprehensive Guide to Scripting and Automation on Mac OS X, 3rd ed., by Hamish Sanderson and Hanaan Rosenthal and can recommend it highly. It's been a while since I thought of myself as an AppleScript beginner, but I've read AppleScript 1-2-3 (twice), and I think Learn AppleScript is a nice next step up from that book.

I'd also suggest looking at AppleScript Developer Reference by Mark Conway Munro. The title is a little misleading — much of the early part of the book is pretty basic and is suitable for beginners rather than developers looking for a reference. (See the book's page at Amazon for a lengthy review from a satisfied customer.)
