An application’s recordability has nothing to do with how scriptable it is. iTunes 2 has an extensive AppleScript dictionary and it is quite possible to write a script to do what you want to do. Very very few applications have good recordability and even then in most cases the kind of scripts you generate by recording won’t give you the kind of functionality you want.
