Extracting fonts from font suitcases

I’ve taken on a project of cleaning up the fonts for a graphics department.

This wouldn’t be so difficult if there weren’t so many font suitcases that contain dissimilar fonts. I suspect that these suitcases were created on OS9 or before when you could easily manipulate font suitcases.

Apparently OSX does not allow you to directly work with the contents of font suitcases as the previous OSes did.

Unfortunately we do not have any Macs old enough to run OS9 or Classic Mode.

Is there a way to extract the fonts using AppleScript so that I can clean up this font set?

Thanks for any input.

Font Book (standard on all Macs) is scriptable. Never tried that, so I cannot offer more help.

I looked at the dictionary, but it doesn’t seem to be able to do this.

Thanks.
