Good day!
Perhaps similar tool already exists. The reason for such a request is simple - there is a huge collection of code in Objective-C, well debugged, and little AppleScript Objective-C. There is especially little code for building a GUI application programmatically, without xCode being involved … And there is almost no documentation and examples for building a GUI application programmatically without xCode.
If this is not yet, then could anyone give rise to such a utility here, in this thread? And then we could all together develop this project. I wish it was a AppleScript or AppleScriptObjc, right here. The principle of operation is something like this: the user sends the script a separate piece of code (the Objective-C code snippet), and the script produces the result in the form of AppleScriptObjc. Then the user corrects some script errors by himself.
Any help would be appreciated.
For a variety of reasons, such a tool is not really practical.
Shane is far too thoughtful to say this, so I will: It would be easier for 'scripters to learn basic Objective-C syntax. This gives one tremendous power for working with many frameworks in a script environment.
Indeed, whenever I have a question on how to do something, I head to stackoverflow and search for old obj-c questions. There’s always some great answers as well as tried-and-true best practices. Then its just a matter of re-writing the code as script. There are surely enough examples already for the earnest scripter to extrapolate most syntax requirements.
If Swift would settle down, that’d also be handy to learn (he said at the risk of understating the obvious).
OK, the most complete documentation with examples to translate Objective-C to AppleScriptObjC?
Preferably without xCode. All these dragging and dropping objects in the nib file are dull. I would not like to build a graphical user interface with the mouse. And for God’s sake, no shortcut keys. I just hate them.
