Can I move data from FMP to Illustrator with a script?

I am very new to applescript and have a question. Is it possible to take data (name, address, phone number, etc. ) out of a record in FilemakerPro and insert it into a illustrator file using applescript? I would like to create business cards this way. Also, I was interested in purchasing a book titled Adobe Illustrator Scripting by Ethan Wilde. If any of you have read this book, is it worth purchasing and do you think this will help me?

Thanks

Yes, I have to believe this would be possible. I know it would be possible and probably easier with Quark though. Do some searches in here about FMpro and you should see what you need to get the info out of FM. Then you will just need to learn what you need to know about Illustrator.

Good luck,
Dave

The script you are talking about could be done fairly easily via scripting, it would be a good learning tool. I don’t know about the book but I’ve had a fairly easy time working off of the scripting guide at: http://partners.adobe.com/asn/illustrator/scripting.jsp and the Adobe scripting forms: http://www.adobeforums.com/cgi-bin/webx?14@@.eea5b36.

FYI: If you prefer to go about this another way you could use xml and Illustrator’s data access tools to create your cards, see the “Use data-driven graphics to streamline design work” example at: http://studio.adobe.com/tips/tip.jsp?p=1&id=165&xml=ill10datadrvn.

Good luck,
