Change Resolution of image without resave them

Hi,

In last 15 years I used AS and Photoshop to normalize images for print.
For “normalize” I mean set resolution to canonical 300 ppi (or 254 ppi) and obtain the correct width and height.
But doing this in Photoshop means that file must be re-saved.
For PSD and TIFF no problems because these file format are lossless
But for JPEG each time you lose a little of info (lossy)

There is a way to change resolution without re-encode the file?

Files can coming saved from Photoshop or from non-Photoshop apps.

A possible solution using Exiftool:

exiftool -Xresolution=254 -Yresolution=254 /Users/adminosx/Desktop/Canon.jpg
