Check if volume is mounted

I have an external FW 800 drive that I want to use for backup. I also want to keep the drive off and only turn it on when I want to backup, so as to limit the amount of time the drive is spinning = less of a chance of the drive failing.

I would like an AS that does the following (similar to the Finder recognizing when a blank CD is inserted)

  1. I turn on the drive and it mounts (obviously I have to do that
  2. Finder recognizes the mounted volume and an Retrospect run document is launched
  3. After backup, drive is unmounted.

#2 is where Iโ€™m having the problem. I canโ€™t find anything that looks to see if a drive is mounted and then moves on.

Any suggestions?

TIA

you would have to run a script with an idle handler that checks to see if disk exist every minute or 2 hours or whatever
that script would always need to be running

probably a better solution would be to save the script as an application then doubleclick or run it from the script menu once you mount the drive

I figured as much.

Thanks for the reply
