Extension of a Apple script saved as Application

HI All,
I have created a application in Applescript.NOw since i have to disturbute it i have saved it as a Application.I have to upload it to a web server giving the option for users to download it from the web.My problem is

I am not able to find out whats the extension of a Applescript saved as a Application.Like zipped files has got a .zip extension can anyone pls tell me whats the extension of a Application .

Compress it as a .sit file. It ca be opened easily with StuffIt Expander. As far as I know, you should have DropStuff or StuffIt Deluxe to compress it.
