Drag what you want to protect onto the white volume icon on your desktop, or double click the icon to open a Finder window and drag the item there. It will be copied, so when you are done, you’ll probably want to delete the unprotected original.
Drag the white volume icon to the trash - it will say “Eject” now - or look in the sidebar of a Finder window and click the eject icon to the right of the 1154 volume (if that is still the name you are using). Your files are now protected within the disk image.
Double click the disk image to mount it, enter your password, then double click the volume to mount that. You can work on your files in that window and save changes before closing it. Or you can drag the files out to work with a copy, then drag the updated copy back to overwrite the version on the disk image. Or you can add files if there is enough space left on the disk image.
One place you can read more about disk images is in Disk Utility help.
Got things under contol now?

No problem.
I might be reading too much into this but I wonder if your needs might be served by getting a USB thumb drive, Mr. Killsquad. They’re cheap, easily concealable, and (obviously) portable. You can even encrypt them if you’re inclined.
Just a thought.
cheers
