Hi,
I’m writing a script to add all my mp3 player’s music to iTunes. It’s a slow usb 1.1 device so importing takes a long time becuase iTunes looks for artwork and wants to decide on the play order. Everything works great with a fast mp3 player but it’s unusable with my usb 1.1 player. Is there a way to disable these slowing features or an alternative way to import the music faster?
I have set iTunes not to download artwork but that doesn’t keep it from looking for it locally.
Just manually copy (or write a script to do it) the songs to your hard drive and then import them into itunes.
I thought of that but that would defeat the purpose of having them on an external device which is basically the whole point. Besides, copying all files to the hard drive would not be that much faster.
Maybe I’m not understanding you then. Aren’t you saying you want to add them to itunes? By doing that you ARE copying them to your hard drive so I don’t understand when you say this.
Doing it this way would certainly stop itunes from searching for artwork over a usb 1.1 connection. And wasn’t that your original question?
You’re right but I don’t have iTunes set to copy files, I don’t like that. The music stays on the mp3 player therefore.
Copying everything to the hard drive takes a lot of time as well over usb 1.1 so that doesn’t make it faster. I’m looking for some way to disable or bypass these features of iTunes.
Oh, you want to mount the mp3 player and then have itunes recognize the songs on it and play the songs from the device… I understand now.
Short of either using different music playing software or upgrading to a usb 2.0 connection, I have no other ideas.
Thought of that as well off course. Thanks for trying anyway.
