Monitor Depth and Mac OS X

I’ve had a good look around on the web trying to find out how to change the main monitor depth using AppleScript in Mac OS X.

Hopefully I’ve just overlooked something completely obvious, and someone can help me out with a line of code to set the monitor depth to 8 bit.

The only way I know of changing the Monitors depth is using Extra Suites or Apple’s GUI Scripting.
