Need help with the Applescript Studio Examples

I can see pretty clearly how the outline view in the “Simple Outline” example gets updated but I can’t figure it out for the example “Outline.” That example throws my directory structure into an outline. I see how it gets it from the Finder but all I see after that is a call for the outline to update. How is the data retreived sent to the outline? I don’t even see a connected data source (like when using tables).

“Outline” doesn’t use a data source. Read the section on “Item Value” in the Applescript Studio Terminology Reference. This explains how the data gets displayed in the outline. Tables and Outlines with and without data sources are a bit confusing until you get your brain wrapped around them. They get much easier to deal with after that.
