We’re using pre-CS version of InDesign but want to upgrade our OS to 10.4. One catch is that I can’t open the InDesign scripting dictionary in Tiger.
I’ve read that the dictionary in newer apps comes from something called an sdef when the app is built. I’ve also read that AppleScript is still supposed to be able to reader the aete resources from older apps. That doesn’t seem to be happening here. Has anyone else encountered this problem?

How are you trying to open the dictionary? I have CS so I can’t confirm your problem. I can tell you though that the CS dictionary never used to show up in the Open Dictionary panel when using Script Editor. However, if I used the Browse button and navigated my way to the app. itself I could open the dictionary by selecting the app.
I, just now, went into Script Editior and chose the Open Dictionary menu item and CS now shows up in the panel.
Anyway, try navigating to the application and accessing the dictionary from there (if you haven’t already that is).
Hope this helps,

I ran into the exact same problem. If you’d like, I can email you the PDF of InDesign 2.0’s scripting dictionary that I use. It’s 524KB.
Just let me know.

In answer to Brad’s question, I’ve tried all the various techniques for opening a dictionary. The dog just won’t hunt.
However, I think there’s a simply answer. Script Editor 2.0 (the one that shipped with Panther) seems to run just fine in Tiger and it can still read the InDesign 2.0 dictionary. I’ve not done what you would call exhaustive testing, but unless something starts throwing off sparks, I can live with a one-off version of Script Editor.
