S--L--O--W Execution of Script

Today I ran exactly the same script doing exactly the same thing on two identically configured Macs, a 400 mhz G3 and a 180 mhz 604e. Both machines were running Mac OS 9, and both had the same amount of RAM. The scripts called for exactly the same sequence of actions to be undertaken on the two machines. I had expected that there would be about a threefold difference in execution time in favor of the G3. What I actually experienced was a fortyfold difference in favor of the G3. I’m quite taken aback and was wondering if anyone could shed some light as to why there would be such a phenomenal difference.

It seems that things slow down enormously when a folder action script is invoked whenever file sharing is active.
