Hi MacScripter community, I was suggested to reach out to you for a question not yet resolved;
in an Automator shell script I would like to use the iPhone to making a cell voice call. The command “open facetime-audio://+61490888888” does not direct my mac to use my iPhone. Any suggestions?
Regards, Carl
There’s no way to directly instigate a phone call on a mac via a script. There’re no appropriate commands neither in the Messages AppleScript dictionary nor among available Unix commands on macOS. Searching for anything remotely resembling phone call executables with “apropos” returned only the function “CommCenter” with a scarcely inadequate man page which basically warns against using the function directly. Without going all lengths it’s not possible to easily script a phone call on Mac. I think that this is (not necessarily the case I agree with) because Apple’s stance on “privacy and security”. Dumb, but nothing to do about that.
