Speech audio thru Application?

This script used to work on my old PPC machine.

      tell application "iTunes"
         say "testes 1 2 3, wait... three? "
      end tell

And by “work” I mean that the audio generated by the text to speech function would actually be streamed out of the application targeted by the Tell. This was VERY helpful in making a fun personal radio station using Nicecast. I would set Nicecast to hijack the audio from iTunes, and this script technique would automagically route the text to speech audio thru iTunes and into Nicecast.

My old PPC machine died, and I have since replaced it with an Intel mac. I don’t recall what version OS I was running before. The new machine has 10.6

I am seeing that this scripting technique is not working as before.

Was there a known change to Applescript in a recent OS update that would have affected this technique?

What behavior do you see when using this technique? (not sure how to suggest testing without using Nicecast)

Any suggestions on things to try to get the same effect back?

Thanks

hmmm… I hope it wasn’t the embedded ‘testes’ humor that is responsible for no replies.

iTunes did get a complete rewrite for Lion. Perhaps the functionality changed.
